Shark “Welcome Back” Dance
by admin
Friday, Sep. 2, 2011, the “Shark Night” Dance took place in the gym after Santiago’s defeat of Dana Hills High School in the first football game of the season. It was a time to eat, hang out, and show off all the grooviest moves on the dance floor. In the gym, teal, black and white balloon arches climbed all the way to the ceiling. The dance floor was pitch black except for the bright lights circling around the room and the music videos playing next to the DJ stand on flat screens. On the other half of the room, the lights were on, and tables were set up with metal folding chairs around them and silver tarps beneath them. This area was bare, except for the few kids who were tired and needed a break from the exaggerated jumping around.
Along the wall, video games and air hockey were set up to play. Only a few students played the games, however. Many of those that did enjoyed them and would like to see them again. Because so few played the games, freshman Kelly Verakis said that they were a “waste of money, but a good idea to have them.”
Many Sharks came with friends to have a good time with each other. There were new experiences, entertaining decorations and fun songs to dance to. “Party in the USA” by Miley Cyrus, “Party Rock Anthem” by LMFAO, and “Single Ladies” by Beyonce were a few songs that got the crowd jumping up and raising their hands with the beat.
The environment of the dance was full of energy, fun, and new memories. Popular dance moves brought to the floor were the Cat Daddy, Spongebob, Shuffle, Reject, and the Wheelchair. Circles formed around those who weren’t afraid to show off their moves and challenge those around them. “This is AWESOME!” said sophomore Arianna Jackson.
Be sure to join the next dance and enjoy the fun time together and dance moves shared with your friends!
